Vasudeo Santu Gaitonde (1924–2001) was a pioneering Indian non-objective painter associated with the Bombay Progressive Artists’ Group. Known for his abstract minimalism inspired by Zen philosophy, his textured, meditative works used rollers and palette knives. A recipient of the Padma Shri (1971), Gaitonde’s art revolutionized Indian modernism.
