Raja Ravi Varma’s Dattatreya presents the three‑headed universal guru standing serenely in a lush, pastoral landscape, merging Indian sacred imagery with Victorian naturalism. The ascetic deity, clad in a simple dhoti and sandals, bears rosary beads and multiple arms holding a trident, discus, conch, lotus, ash, and begging bowl, uniting attributes of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Around him stand Kamadhenu, symbolising Earth and Dharma, and four attentive dogs embodying the Vedas, set before lotus‑dotted waters and distant snow‑clad peaks that subtly relocate the seemingly English countryside to India.
